BUILDING A CAREER IN FIRE & SECURITY
Are you technically minded and keen to find a route in to a rewarding, specialist industry…? Look no further than the Churches Fire & Security Academy.
Our unique training scheme offers you the exciting opportunity to become a fully qualified technician, taught by our highly knowledgeable, accomplished trainers. This will allow you to service and maintain a range of life-saving and property protection systems to the highest standard.
We are always on the lookout to hire new trainees with the right attitude for a place in our Academy, which provides structured training through shadowing, hands-on learning and classroom-style modules.
You will learn from the best Technicians and Trainers in the industry, whilst achieving industry-recognised qualifications and learning about the British Standards that govern our work while earning a great salary and gaining excellent experience and skills.
Our technicians are regionally based across the UK and are responsible for visiting customer premises to service, maintain or install high-quality equipment and systems according to the latest standards. First-class customer service and experience is at the heart of everything we do, so if you have excellent people skills, a technical mindset and plenty of initiative, there's every chance this could be the opportunity for you.
To apply for a place in our academy, you'll need a full valid UK driving licence, a positive attitude and some work-based experience within a customer-facing or preferably in a technical environment - either electrical, manufacturing, construction or technical retail.

Here at Churches Fire and Security we take our impact on the environment extremely seriously and are proud to be working with Ocean Clean Up charity Seven Clean Seas via our recruitment partners, who extract ONE KILO of plastic waste from the sea for every new employee that joins Churches Fire.
This is the equivalent to around 40 single use plastic water bottles for every new member of our team. The charity works to tackle plastic waste at many of the main entry points across the world, helping to preserve marine life and water quality for future generations.
HR Director Laura Hardy commented “As an ethical business it is incredibly important to us at Churches Fire that we do all we can to positively impact the environment and the world we live in. This partnership enables us to make a tangible, measurable impact and so far we are on course to remove the equivalent of nearly 7,000 single use bottles from the sea in 2023, purely as a result of our recruitment activity. Not only is this obviously a great thing to be associated with, it’s also unique in our industry and certainly gives a flavour of our values here at CFS”.

First Intake of Academy Trainees Set for Success
As our first intake of Academy Trainees are set to graduate at the end of the month, we caught up with our Training Support Manager Safir Hussein for the lowdown on the last three months, and to find out what makes securing a place on our Churches Academy such a great opportunity for anyone considering a career as a Fire & Security Alarm Technician. Safir told us that the Academy was launched to help address a need for Technicians to service our customer’s intruder and fire safety systems to industry leading standards. In an industry with a notable skills shortage, the Academy provides an opportunity to provide the right people with the necessary skills to be a competent Technician, and to learn the Churches way – how things should be done. The Churches Academy presents a route for candidates from outside of the Fire & Security industry to join and train and enter a sector with higher than average remuneration and potential. We asked Safir the secret to his 100% success rate with new trainees..“I think the fact that the Academy course is so well structured really helps our groups to learn at their own pace. There’s a unique balance between classroom style theory and practical experience with a mentor, so we’re able to offer constant support to pick up any areas where some more help might be needed. Churches have really invested in the Academy – it’s an opportunity to learn skills from experienced Technicians, but not only that – we give detailed training on British Standards, and how to service equipment to the highest standards in line with these so it’s great for our customers as well! We hear that your first group of Trainees are about to graduate – what does that mean for the individuals, and for the business? “It’s fantastic for the team – they’ve been paid in full for their training but as you’d expect, there is a financial advantage for them once they pass out of the Academy which is great news for all of them and well deserved because they’ve all put so much effort in to building their knowledge – I’m bursting with pride about how well all of the guys have done, and I’m excited to watch them build their careers with us. For the business, and most importantly for our customers this is great news, because this cements our ability to exceed customer expectations in the future. So what’s next…?Well, the support doesn’t stop for these guys – we’ll be mentoring them and supporting their development in the coming months and I’m excited to say that we’re starting work on our next intake already!

A New Billing team and Promotion for Mehdi
As part of Churches commitment to the provision of a first-class customer experience, we recently took the decision form a new team dedicated to ensuring first-time billing accuracy, streamlined processes and that customer invoice queries are dealt with quickly and effectively. We were thrilled to be able to promote Mehdi into the role of Billing Team Manager, after several years with Churches Fire & Security.
Mehdi’s new role will involve overseeing this new team, and taking the lead in complex client queries and driving process efficiencies. Since joining Churches Fire & Security in a Customer Service role, Mehdi has been supported in studying for his AAT qualifications and has been promoted twice – demonstrating how hard work is rewarded across the business. Of Medhi’s promotion, our Finance Manager Magda commented “We are very proud of Mehdi and what he has achieved since starting with Churches in 2015”.
